We believe in Zero Accident

We are keen about promoting and maintaining high Safety, Health, Environment and Hygiene standards. Safety is top on the agenda of all our meetings/events both within and outside the organization. A well-resourced department is dedicated to safety since 2012 and has since inception achieved a lot within this very short time.

We want all our employees, contractors and visitors to return home safely and unharmed. It’s our belief that all accidents can be prevented. Our set of Life-Saving Rules (LSRs) reinforces what every employee, contractor and visitor must know and do to prevent serious injuries or fatalities.

All visitors, suppliers, contractors are made to undergo safety induction before entering our premises. Truck drivers also have their safety induction in ‘pidgin’ English.  With these we are able to reach the public with our safety message. Employees are actively involved in safety engagement such as risk assessment and incident investigations. Incentives and awards are given accordingly for exemplary safety behaviors.

Accident Reduction

The company has a centralized online system in place to report all near misses and accidents. All reported incidents are investigated and analyzed and the root cause identified and solved. The number of medical treatment accidents (including First Aid cases) has reduced from 120 in 2011 to 7 in 2015.  This attests to the fact that our safety culture is improving, our operational controls are effective and our safety management system is functional.

International CertificationsOur safety performance

FrieslandCampina WAMCO is currently ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certified and recently we have maintained our conformance to the requirements of the standards after a successful surveillance audit by an internationally accredited institute (Bureau Veritas). This means we have put in place structured management frameworks to reduce the likelihood of accidents, boost our environmental performance, and improve our corporate reputation by demonstrating commitment to international best practice.

Green Company Award for reduction of emissions – 2014

In addition to our compliance to safety standard, we are committed to ensuring that our activities/operations do not have adverse impact on the environment. Hence the company embarked on multi-million naira investments in the area of machineries and equipment to ensure that sustainability is achieved as required globally by the United Nations, Federal Government of Nigeria and the Lagos State Government in particular. Our safety performance 2

In 2009 the Independent Power Plant (IPP) was commissioned with the use of natural gas and acoustic wall to reduce noise emission. The Company is able to further reduce the emission of Greenhouse gases by 30%. Also at the moment, FrieslandCampina runs its boilers on 100% natural gas to generate steam for the sterilization of the evaporated milk instead of HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil) and diesel which formally used in the years back. This has tremendously increased the efficiency by about 55%.
